It really just shows what little respect they have for filmgoers. They basically said “just remake the old one and these brainless dullards will go see it en masse.” Then when the movies started to suck they got super reactionary and start pulling levers based on social media posts. That’s how we got Palpatine back. Very stupid.
Just utter disdain for their audience. But they have a contingent of defenders who will eat every bit of slop except for diversity.

Kylo Ren is still probably the most interesting character in the series if only because “manchild who gets angry” is more personality than the rest of the cast who were basically required to act like sapient cardboard
