That’s just not true? Marvel movies have notoriously easy to follow narratives, they have character arcs, themes, all the trappings you need for a very basic story. Being the bare minimum of what’s expected from a story is the MAIN flaw.
Okay, idk how to describe it then, yes the plots are simple but everything is so superficial that it’s like spending your entire day scrolling through twitter. Presumably you consumed content, presumably it was easy to follow, but you largely can’t describe what it was because it was so close to just white noise that your brain failed to develop new memories. At least for the last few years they’ve felt like this to me, I exit the movie theatre and can no longer give a brief outline of what just happened.
And again, most of the runtime does feel like a slog. Usually thirty minutes in I get the urge to check what runtime is left. So much of the movie just feels like unnecessary filler. Which is what I meant that people do this with MCU movies currently.
I think you’re taking for granted the basic narrative literacy they have. The Disney formula is super boring sure, but there’s a world of difference between something like Zootopia and the Emoji Movie. Sure, Thor 2 is tedious, but I think it’s being obtuse to pretend like it isn’t a step above where the average blockbuster was in 2003.
