Something that always stuck out as weird to me is I remember watching Fox News coverage of the 2004 election and they seemed to be paying an inordinate amount of attention to this Democrat with a weird name who’d just became Illinois’ new Senator.

Maybe they’re just good at picking their future boogeymen with which to scare the audience, but my conspiracy brain can’t help but wonder if someone there at Fox knew something that everyone else didn’t.

Occam’s Razor Says it was because a young black highly vocal opponent of the Iraq War (I know ironic) won in an unexpected landslide including 70% of all votes and was being set up to be the new fave of the party is probably why they focussed on him.

Agreed. Much like how AOC became the more recent boogeyman a few years back (young, nonwhite, anti establishment)
