:downbear:

It shouldn’t be the end goal but it can help improve conditions for people and highlight contradictions present in a capitalist system.

Any positive changes Sawant or any elected official can make will be undone or simply not enforced. You can’t vote away any of the problems capital is causing in the lives of workers. It doesn’t do anything except help you make yourself feel better. Which, that’s fine, but it has the same impact on material conditions as voting for who should be in the NBA all star game

The $15/hour in Seattle and the movement in general can largely be attributed to Sawant and SA. These are good reforms to leverage and associate with a socialist message.

This is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever heard.

Sawant actively works in organizing and bringing together groups across Seattle. She’s not just not getting things passed in Congress.

The federal gov has fully abdicated the duty of governing in the modern US. It’s also where capital is easier to defeat as it’s usually more local forces than national or global ones. Local wins have continually happened and can continue to as long as we keep building (read rebel cities by David Harvey). PART of that is going to be using electoral politics to blunt the sharp edges of the state.

Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember… we’re all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --
