This is the concept of new fucking bond movie, bioweapon that can target people based on specific dna.
Isaac Asimov wrote a really good story about this and overpopulation once, can’t recall what it was called. anyway, this is also a plot point in Metal Gear Solid and featured in a green arrow story, and is mentioned as a means of war in Becky Chamber’s Long Way to a small, angry planet, so suffice to say the idea has been present and worked on for a while.
I am aware of that(except long war one, would you recommend it?). But it was the most recent thing that came to my mind(and it might therefore be the thing OP drew their inspiration from). Or if you wanna get wacky with it, the “bio weapon that targets white people” might be the new thing we say China is doing(although I truly doubt this)
That makes sense, maybe I’m just too used to spouting off other examples of similar trends or tropes. If you can remember the name of the Asimov story that’d be great, all I get when I look it up are articles about his views on overpopulation, which are just kind of annoying. Anyway, I VERY highly recommend all of Becky Chamber’s work. I’ve read her main trilogy and novella “To Be Taught, if Fortunate,” and greatly enjoyed all of them. Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet is the first book of her trilogy, so maybe give it a try and see if you like it.
