The previous thread dunking on this lacked context and has been removed by the mods (for sectarianism in the post-text). @invalidusernamelol (who wasn’t OP) provided added context just before the thread was removed, which I think deserves its own thread to clear up some of the questions that came up.

https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/3aORDGFBQG.png - user complains about “tankies” “[justifying] a genocide”, Discord mod agrees and threatens to ban the “tankie”.

https://hexbear.net/pictrs/image/RGIHhkkpa4.jpg - “tankie” in question’s messages “[justfying] a genocide”.

Unfortunate if this is the stance of the moderators of the Discord.

Edited to clarify I didn’t mean the Hexbear moderators - thanks to @WhyEssEff for letting me know how this read.

It’s deliberately hard-coded, because the original Lemmy devs wanted to make it harder for right-wingers to use the software. But yeah, it’s a bit blunt. Still manages to catch some wreckers, though, and you know that when one knows how to get around it that means it’s not their first time here.

How would that prevent right wingers?

It makes it so they have to modify the code to remove it if they want to set up a Lemmy instance. I think it also just makes them mad and pushes them away from picking Lemmy for their websites.

Wouldn’t a non-hardcoded one also involve that? Or couldn’t they just have both? :thinkin-lenin:

It’s the dunk tank.

This is where you come to post big-brained hot takes by chuds, libs, or even fellow leftists, and tear them to itty-bitty pieces with precision dunkstrikes.

Rule 1: All posts must include links to the subject matter, and no identifying information should be redacted.

Rule 2: If your source is a reactionary website, please use archive.is instead of linking directly.

Rule 3: No sectarianism.

Rule 4: TERF/SWERFs Not Welcome

Rule 5: No ableism of any kind (that includes stuff like libt*rd)

Rule 6: Do not post fellow hexbears.

Rule 7: Do not individually target other instances’ admins or moderators.

Rule 8: The subject of a post cannot be low hanging fruit, that is comments/posts made by a private person that have low amount of upvotes/likes/views. Comments/Posts made on other instances that are accessible from hexbear are an exception to this. Posts that do not meet this requirement can be posted to !shitreactionariessay@lemmygrad.ml

Rule 9: if you post ironic rage bait im going to make a personal visit to your house to make sure you never make this mistake again
