If you read Mandela’s book he praises socialist leaders and revolutionaries directly and was greatly influenced by them and their writings. Obviously, when he did finally become president of South Africa he did not start transitioning towards socialism haha but it was definitely an important part of his ideological backing during the resistance days
Yeah, I know. His rule as President was basically social democracy, but I wonder if he was being too cautious because of the whole coming to power a few years after 1991 thing
Fwiw when the ANC came to power in South Africa they got completely fucked by the IMF and world bank into doing neoliberalism, because they were still on the hook for billions in debt that their oppressors had racked up in the years before they got ousted.
