I’m wondering what happened to the peace movement of the 80s that the collapse of the Soviet Union could have been handled so much better. Like multilateral disarmament in return for the dismantling of NATO, foreign aid and foreign direct investment that isn’t asset stripping rat fuckery. The cultural momentum captured in films like threads, testament and miracle mile just died when the Americans believed that there was nobody left to harm them except terrorists, PMC predators and “urban types”.

Preferably there would have been a movement to maintain the Soviet Union in the name of stability alone and that would have saved many lives in eastern europe.
