I’m just filling the void with mental and social junk food
instead of just dialing back the addiction.
To be fair, tech companies spend billions of dollars weaponizing human psychology. It’s idealist to just tell people “hey did you ever think just don’t watch porn/eat Big Macs/spend your free time on social media”
I’m all for striving for moderation. The wording just seemed to center the behaviour of the individual as a moral failing though without acknowledging the psychopolitical soup we live in.
While the nofap-to-cryptofascist pipeline is a problem, I think what they mean is moderation just isn’t attainable for some people. I know if I get a gram of ketamine my partner is going to try to do the whole bag in one sitting, so my solution is to not buy ketamine. For some people, their solution is full-on sobriety.
Different strokes, as the saying goes. Sometimes that might mean no strokes at all.
