Sure. But I think there’s a bit more below the surface than “We threw darts at a board and decided to be racist against the Roma today”. Like, they’re superficially white. They don’t stand out any more than your average Italian. There’s no immediately clear reason for the hate.
But the fact that they’re migrants moving through a nation of settlers and landed aristocrats, I think, triggers some animal part of the brain.
sure, except that doesnt happen anymore. at least the ones around here are entirely settled and have been for (at least) a few generations. did not change the racism at all.
You can say the same thing about Hispanics in Texas. Yeah, they’re settled. Yeah, they’ve largely integrated into the American cough culture cough.
But they’re still perceived as day laborers and field hands, particularly by the WASPs that dominate the bourgeois tier of your area.
