I know I’ve said this before, but it’s so weird that Jesus said that every bit of the law was to be followed until the end of time, but Christians are like, nah it’s ok, Paul said so.

Edit: to expand, I’m an atheist and was raised that way and therefore have no personal baggage related to religion and approach it as a historical resource cause I don’t believe it but a fuckload of people did and do. So yknow, I’ve read the Bible before and yeah, these people are fucking terrible Christians and their heresy runs far deeper thsn my own because I just reject God where they distort and pervert Him and His messages. A literal witchfinder general ofnthe colony of Massachusetts Bay in the 1600s would aside from bisexualitiy (which is still kinda up to God to punish cause you’re not supposed to seek vengeance on God’s behalf) I’d be sitting fucking pretty compared to most practicing Christians of this ilk.

i’d say mormonism is the only religion actually doing the core tenets or scripture thing but but they decided black people had souls in the 70s so they’re not doing it either.

whatever idealized version of a religion you think is doctrinally correct is exactly as legitimate as a megachurch

I made an edit explaining things better. There’s nothing idealized about what I’m on about. I’m indifferent to Christianity or whatever religion in general but I’m into mideval and early colonial history and being into that stuff kinda require reading the Bible for reference and if we can tske sexuality off the cart cause it’s probably the only place a puritan and modern evangelical would find common ground, the puritan would find me more godly than a modern evangelical.

ok but the puritans or any other sect aren’t the arbiters of doing quality christianity.

i’m saying there’s no basis to say something like this:

these people are fucking terrible Christians

because there’s no legitimacy behind any of the doctrinal claims. Even if the religion were somehow true at some core (whatever that means), the gospels were not contemporaneous accounts of he alleged messiah, none of these people have any idea what their deity thinks or what his avatar or child actually said to anyone. They dispute tinity vs unity, they don’t even agree on what books are “correct”.

we don’t get to say one sect is better or worse at doing a religion because the religion is whatever the adherents say it is. christianity isn’t one religion that people are good or bad adherents, it’s a couple billion different religions that cluster into thousands or millions of congregations and an arbitrary number of major branches depending on which schisms you decide to value enough to call “major”.

new revelation is a tenant of Mormonism, the decision to integrate church callings was not counter to doctrine

it was a cynical move to save the church from criticism as a regressive racist cult, but it did not violate scripture.
