Why would the GOP stop social security cuts? Isn’t cutting social security an explicit goal of theirs? Is that the point? I hate this so much.

“Cutting” social security is deeply unpopular with anyone who works for a living. But “increasing social security efficiency through free market reforms for working class Americans” is extremely popular with conservative voters. It’s all about the framing :think-mark:

It’s unpopular with their base. It’s on the party agenda and has been for a while, but it’s so deeply unpopular across the political spectrum that they’ve never dared touch it, well at least not directly. They’ll do their best to make social security unviable through indirect means, but cutting it will probably lead to worse outcomes than even overturning Roe did.
