Greetings gamers and those who wisely abstain,

It has become clear to us that even in the short while we’ve federated, the situation with sh.itholefor.nazis is entirely untenable and we will be defederating immediately. Multiple instances of ableist and homophobic slurs directed at our users, overwhelming litigiousness against even the most innocuous comments by our users, and just a general ethos of reactionary behavior. We’re done and out.

One of the concerns with embracing TC69 thought on site bans with federation is that the user would basically be just hexbear-side hidden and blocked from our comms, free to post reactionary content without the fear of Lenin behind them. That was a silly concern. We will resume our pre-federation policies regarding site bans.

When I first joined Lemmy, I started on their server. I warned them about becoming the Nazi bar, and left. My hope was that we could bring over any remaining cool people and leave all the chuds behind, but it seems that it has already become nothing but a wasteland of chuds. What a shame.

Me too - pretty quickly got the nazi bar vibe and moved to a different server.

Weirdly enough, this is how I felt in the very early days of Voat. We all remember it now as the nazi-infested shithole it fast became. But very early on in its first big wave of ex-redditors, it gained a sizable group of leftists and the kinds of people I like to think of as “left-curious liberals”.

When it became clear that the admins/mods cared more about growing userbase size than clamping down on fascists, transphobes, body-shamers, and other assholes, we in that left and left-adjacent userbase went away because we knew there was no future there.
