Yeah, but then I have to check for new versions manually, correct?

Yes, you have to check and install versions manually.

I donโ€™t install every single release, just every couple weeks when I get around to it or when thereโ€™s an acute issue.

I also get notifications from newreleases.io, where you can basically follow Github or other repositories/registries to receive email notifications for updates. So I donโ€™t necessarily check the repo, but get release notes in my inbox and decide if itโ€™s worth upgrading from there.
