The biggest thing you can do on desktop is switch to firefox and install ublock origin and use duckduckgo or any search engine but google. Firefox’s marketshare has shrunk dramatically over the years and is in an increasingly perilous position to the point many of us are starting to worry about its future and independence. The more users it has the more stable it will become. If it shrinks too far web companies may cease caring to develop for it. So switch to firefox and get your friends to switch.
Absolutely! Safari, Internet Explorer (or whatever MSFT calls it now, I haven’t used windows regularly for years) and Chrome/Chromium [open-source Chrome] are all based on the same browser engine. Which is mainly developed by Google, effectively giving them control over the internet. Google also operates a website blacklist.
