I read Sublime Object of Ideology with little philosophical backgrounds too, if you’re going to try your hand at it, I recommend reading Lionel Bailley’s intro to Lacan, maybe Zizek’s Looking Awry and the very first chapter of Capital and/or get familiar with the concept of commodity, and you’ll be mostly set.
