- Dark mode by default
- Emojis – holy shit how has every other social media site fucked this up so badly?
- Some interesting/educational content
- Solid lefty memes/dunks
- Decent size, decent amount of activity
- Sometimes it’s nice not to relitigate why capitalism is bad in every third comment
There’s an old joke about New York City that I think applies here. “I hate New York City.” “So why don’t you move?” “But there’s nowhere else to live!” Or something like that. Basically this site is a hellsite but where the fuck else are you going to go on the internet? So yeah love you folks. :stalin-heart:
Reddit is like a giant auditorium where at least 30% of the people are violent reactionaries, and even if you try and mingle in a spot with the normal people you’re never really free of them. It’s exhausting, and impossible to have any feeling of community cohesion. Hexbear is a much smaller room but it’s full of people who actually share the same core values, even if we differ in other ways.
I don’t have to be on edge that someone is going to spring full chud bullshit on me that I’m going to have to sift through.
I can post a mediocre take on here just for fun, and get constructive feedback on it that I may or may not end up agreeing with, rather than inside-out brained lib/chud bullshit. On Reddit or whatever, I’m only going to post well within my comfort zone and be ready to defend it.
The lack of reddit brain/debate bro mentality.
I’ve actually learned a lot from people here and generally it makes me feel better having interactions instead of other social media that’s just shit slinging.
