Don’t be a cultural morlock living in reaction against whatever is popular. They’re westerns with magic, shit isn’t trying to be high art.
^baby brain’s first contrarian post
yo that phrase you just said defines my existence
Westerns with magic sounds like a much more engaging genre than superhero movies, ngl.
It’s the same picture, tho.
I think a lot of the hatred isn’t even down to the movies themselves (although there is a lot of legitimate criticisms to be had): It’s to do with the complete capeshit saturation we’ve now achieved, where every movie is hyped, part of it’s own cinematic universe, and so on, combined with each studio putting out a new cape movie every month.
This complaint comes up regularly and has far more to do with big studios chasing their own tails than comic book stories being any more obnoxious than the Disaster Movie franchise of the '10s or the Horror/Thriller kick we went on the early '00s, or the High Fantasy shit from the 90s, or the Dystopia bender of the '80s.
DC kinda burning out and Marvel overextending past the Thanos arc probably means we’re at the end of an era and we’re going to move on to something else. If I had to bet, I’d say Space Odyssey is coming back, as mass media has to pivot to a fantasy that’ll give us an excuse not to worry about climate change. Or maybe we’ll slip back into WW2 nostalgia for another decade. Can’t wait to see a bunch of “Look how terrible Maoism was” reactionary historical takes.
Whatever comes next, I wouldn’t worry. I guarantee it’ll be schlock propaganda and we’ll all hate it.
WTF am I looking at?
Also capeshit sucks but not because of idk politics or whatever, they’re just boring.
Can someone explain to me what do you all mean by capeshit, I started to see it a lot and I’m out of the loop
It’s the superhero genre, due to the capes worn by characters like superman.
