Biden could have, very easily, made a big push for improving mental health funding after all the recent mass shootings. Instead he is going after gun control in a fight that will go nowhere. Politicians despise the mentally ill in this country and voting will just put more ghouls in charge who will fuck us over. Fuck this dumbass, cruel country :amerikkka: :amerikkka:

Mental illness is a problem it’s just not a problem with any particular relation to mass shootings. Mass shooters are very similar people in most key ways to terrorists and in both cases the issue tends to be cultural attitudes towards being a man (they’re pretty much all men) and violence. To the point where mass shooter and terrorist are essentially just terms meaning the same thing but referring to the race of the perpetrator.
America for example is constantly glorifying violence and talking it up. In a way similar to how ISIS encourages terrorism by glorifying young men who perform terrorist acts and similarly after a mass shooting the American media makes them famous and seem dangerous. and American culture values fame and men seeming dangerous so they get fans and praise from niche groups. The American media pushing fear is the problem as they give them the attention they wanted. It basically boils down to the fact that terrorism and mass shootings are actually good for the media
It basically all boils down to the fact that they are given attention and are at least somewhat deemed to be a good example of American cultural values.
TL;DR: It’s a cultural issue around what it means to be a man and American cultural perception of violence
Yeah I agree with this. Mental illness is such a broad term and I really dislike the way the media talks about it when there are mass shootings but I would imagine quite a few mass shooters are suffering from some sort of mental affliction. I get why people are defensive though because a lot of the public perception of mental illness is piss poor and the reality is that 99.99999999999999999999% of people who suffer from a “mental illness” are non violent.
I would also add that capitalism has a way of alienating and demoralizing people and that factors in a lot imo.
We don’t need it to prevent shooters, we need it for their victims and everyone with mass shooting anxiety in our society. Trauma victims cannot afford treatment in many cases and we need to do something about it.
