I think there’s a bizarre thing going on where a lot of people consider themselves as the centre for some reason
everything scary and not nice is to their right
everything that sounds nice but can’t be done, for… reasons, is to their left
The most irritating aspect of it is when you call people out on it (dems being the left) they just double down and say something like “ well I mean I’m just talking about the US” or “Oh are you the person that decides what’s a leftist?”
leftism is when you make asses smaller in video games
Radical left is when there are also lesbians and strong willed women in your video game.
I have yet to encounter a liberal who claims to have read Capital, probably because it requires some awareness to know of it. The manifesto though as well as Animal Farm and various Francis Fukuyama books tend to come up a lot which on further inquiry they have not actually read.
Kind of insane to think people would be aware of Fukuyama but not of Capital. He’s not super obscure, but you’d figure people who seek out his work would be aware of other major books on political science and political economy?
The individual I have in mind who insisted I read Fukuyama may well know of Capital though there are certainly many who only vaguely know of the manifesto and assume it is the quintessential tome of all communism.
