For multiplayer games with “grounded” settings, I’ve always preferred just having even a barebones character creator with cardbord 8-9 faces and make up my own backstory if any at all as opposed to this. Works for RS2V and Hell Let Loose.

This was fine back before they really made COD about operators. Like the OG and 2 you had a backstory because you followed a character throughout multiple battles. Finest Hour had you in Stalingrad playing through 3 different ones. 2 had the same perspectives in each campaign (minus a tank level). It made sense then.

Now it’s just more propaganda to trick kids into thinking they could be an Army of One and join the military. Highly skilled, killing whoever the “enemy” of the State is at that time, and defend peace and democracy.

The funny thing is that used to be the norm. Call of Duty characters used to have a lot of personality, much more than just military jarheads that grunt all the time.

Of course, that was the singleplayer campaign.
