Dr Mrs The Monarch has the same thing going on as Alice Caldwell Kelly, where her sheer nonchalant confidence overrides your brain’s preconceptions and you simply stop perceiving the voice as discordant.
Except Dr Mrs. being voiced by a cis man trying as hard to sound masculine as possible.
At first, yeah that’s the bit and it sucks, but the voice inflections change a lot throughout the show as it grows and it stops being a joke.
Oh, I’m totally fine with it and they did a fantastic job, it just sounds like a voice to me at this point and she’s one of my favorite characters in one of my favorite shows. And at the end of the day, it’s still a cis dude doing a deeper than natural voice and although I get the joke I do think comparing it to an actual trans person is still a bit iffy.
As a kid I always read it as a smokers voice. Its interesting to see things in different ways now.
Good article. You also might have mentioned how The Monarch’s is so passionately attracted to her that he can’t even comprehend it when other characters express discomfort with her masculine voice
Good article. Although I dont think Dr. Mrs. The Monarch’s voice was ever explained to be a result of heavy smoking. I don’t think it’s explained at all.
Also as a long time I’ve gotten so used to her voice at this point that I forget there’s anything remarkable about it.
Good article! Love Venture bros.
