I pretty much knew as soon as I was old enough to think.

I find it more distressing that the majority of people, although dumb as fucking rocks never seem to mentally progress past highschool emotions wise

like the weird bullying and flexing and shit and it’s like damn dude why do you still fucking care just live your life and I’ll live mine

Yeah I think I’ve probably been bullied and fucked around with more as an adult than I was as a kid… Shit compounds to where you start to think you’re just not cut out for this world

it’s generally been gradual over the last 20-30 years, watching leadership and institutional failure to recognize/adapt to any type of crisis. climate change is a big one, but catastrophic economic failures and consequences of imperial aggression too.

like I remember a few key individual adults being thick-headed in my teens, then feeling like lots of people were dumbasses for being so focused on consumerism and appearing cool/affluent.

how outrageous the global financial collapse was and how none of the bad actors were punished. an undeniable example of the state’s servitude to capital, with the exclamation point of cops roughly shutting down occupy.

the way boomers took to Facebook like pigs to shit, addicting themselves to microtransaction games.

and now, being a part of The Academy, seeing how petty careerism and the neoliberal order have sucked all the air out of the room and how our Public Intellectuals basically suck at critical thinking/analysis outside their own discipline… and sometimes even within it.

at this point, I’m so jaded I legit get confused when someone in a leadership position displays leadership qualities with competence to promote reform and future resilience. like in a “where’d this character come from? is this a prank?” way.

I learned early on to never fix someone’s computer, or let anyone know you were doing anything with computers because as soon as something breaks it’s both you’re fault and your problem.

Made the mistake of building my own router last year and I haven’t heard the end of it. Any outage is immediately my fault. Any slowdown is my fault. Broken links, banned accounts, internet bullies, all my fault.

I know some very basic coding, and more like how to code not an actual working language. This didn’t stop someone from asking me to fix their physically totaled macbook.

They don’t just stay at home. They also claim that an issue that was clearly just a mistake on their part in Excel is Excel or their computer’s fault. That, after they saved the spreadsheet, it just magically changed. On a spreadsheet without macros, scripts, calculations, or formulas. And clearly, IT sucks because they aren’t doing anything about that.

Their personal problems could be solved with the most logical solution. An example, staying in a loveless marriage and outwardly complaining about it instead of doing couples therapy or doing something requires a little effort.

This is also part of it for me, my parents would opt to have an earth-shattering meltdown and argue for 2 hours once a month about how much they hated each other and want a divorce.
