Singaporeans, tell us how much do you hate working for Chinese companies.
Singaporeans: I mean, it’s not that bad. Typical long-hours like every other tech company. And, uh, they speak Mandarian.
Literally 80 percent of the article is spent on the fact that the companies mostly conduct buiness in Mandarin. And buried in every forth paragraph is a line like “not everyone thought it was horrible.”
Using a language spoken at home by half the population.
This is literally 1498 animal safari.
Honestly, Chinese firms would probably be well served by using English and Spanish when they mover international just from an ease of use perspective. Like I get that english isn’t a particularly easy language, but its a super common second language and from what I have heard it’s easier than mandarin. It’s too bad all attempts to move toward a more neutral international language have flopped, I dont know how you would be able to manage that without some sort of global mandate.
Why did 2 of the most influential languages in the world also have to be 2 of the hardest to learn :sadness:
For sure.
Adding to that tho, I don’t see a lot of criticism of, for example, French companies, who notoriously conduct business mostly in French. Anecdotally, I’ve been handed a translation headset in France but never China.
