Well if the ship goes very close to light speed (but lower), time goes by very slowly for you, so you don’t really need FTL

Still even at a ship traveling at 0.9c the relativistic time dialation/length contraction will have you (an on board observer) experience a lets say 10 light years journey as taking place over somewhat less than 5 years. 0.99c will drop you to 1.5 years of "experienced’ time. Huge difference but not enough for most stuff still

Yeah but if you’re going really close to light speed you’ll age slower. Everyone else will age at the normal rate though.

But as geikei pointed out you would have to travel really close to light speed to experience significant time dilation
