The fact that a game has a shocking ending is a spoiler in and of itself. Better off looking for games that just have good stories. Portal and Portal 2 are pretty good in terms of engrossing stories. The Stanley Pararable. Antichamber (PLAY THIS GAME!!! even though it doesn’t have a story). Dishonored. Dishonored 2. I liked Watch Dogs, but the story isn’t all that great or anything. Also liked The Witness but it doesn’t really have much of a story, just cool puzzles and a pretty world.
Chrono Trigger, especially the DS version that has more endings than the original SNES version.
Knights of the Old Republic I and II. They do more with the franchise and worldbuilding than the movies combined. Get the unofficial patch for II so you don’t miss the unfinished content.
Mother 3’s ending left me utterly devastated.

Unfortunately, I’m steeped deeply enough in the genre of fiction that SOMA lives in that I guessed the ending almost immediately. Still a cool story, but lost some oomph.
