Could the Chinese leadership get away with murdering 800k citizens? Bet not, checkmate buddy.
It’s the same logic behind why anti-capitalism, in the end, often just reinforces capitalism (something something Mark Fisher Quote). If people believe there is no alternative and their lives theoretically could be worse (like living in a poor country or a “regime”), then yeah, that’s just the way things are. Of course, there’s a limit to everything, even if we might not see that reached this century.
Yes. Next question.
China would be less stable if that happened as it doesn’t have the same horrifically repressive mechanisms in place that America has to prevent its population from rising up.
It’s a good job they will not let it happen in the first place.
In order to make this argument this person must concede that America has more repression of the population against rising up in order to make this argument, and therefore that the Chinese are free-er people.
Wasn’t the Hong Kong parliament building sacked by rioters waving American flags, and they just carried on as usual with crowd control that’s somewhat more restrained than in the US and the eventual arrest of some of the oligarchs that fomented the riots as well as some NED-related protest leaders? Haven’t they been overall softer on the people directly involved but harsher on the people actively responsible than the US has?
