They aren’t going to purge them. They have the perfect set up, they can’t govern because they can’t win seats, they can’t win seats because of the Squad. They have an easy excuse to not do anything.

Only issue now is that they do have the seats to do stuff, fortunately they have Manchin to run interference.

The squad is more useful as a punching bag for the Dems in the same way the Dems are a useful punching bag for the GOP.

They ain’t going anywhere, because they defuse and absorb on-the-ground anger and channel it into tweets and op-eds where it accomplishes nothing.

A purge means the democrats have nobody to blame for their self-inflicted failures.

My take is that everyone who is a part of the capitalist machine but who resists it will either get completely sidelined or somehow appropriated by it. In The Squad’s case, they got appropriated, but not in the “selling out to corporate interests” way (though there has been a little bit of that, see Palestine-related votes), but in the “acceptable target” way. As long as the media machine hypes up the existence of The Squad, people will think they have more influence than they do, and you can constantly run pieces like this one blaming everything that goes wrong on the most left wing elements of your party.
