The TL;DW was that the committee that decided what to do with the body set the it up for pubic viewing/mourning in what was supposed to be a temporary measure, but then things got out of hand. Despite many historians assigning some weird politics related to the body to Stalin, there’s no indication that he ever interfered with the committee.
This is actually a common misconception. Lenin’s body was put on display by a committee that was tasked with setting up a funeral, in what was supposed to be a temporary viewing that just never ended. Stalin wasn’t on the committee and there’s no evidence that he meddled with it.

I used to think pro-EU Europeans were the height of sophistication and taste. Like, who could be cooler than them? They were right on just about every argument.
Then I started reading /r/Europe and these same people turned into Nazi SS the moment the “gypsies” were mentioned. They were thieves, they polluted nearby water sources, they stole bikes, just ugly lie after ugly lie. Wow, that was a wakeup call.
