because workers like people who praise them
I feel it’s like seeking validation for positions and shifting the way we look at work. It’s serving to insulate people and atomize them. To me, talent implies an inborn trait whereas practiced or trained assumes time has gone into it. It’s victim-blaming like that. Someone who doesn’t have the time or resources to acquire skills or licensing or other qualifications is untalented. Just disregard the fact that this other person was only able to get those skills by having a wealthy parent pay for it. it also keeps people from identifying with other workers.
“I’m not like one of those people who need to work. I have a passion and a talent to get things done. I was born with the potential for this position, even if it’s just bullshit.”
obsession with media and the production of it is my guess
For one of my jobs, I worked for a foreign company as a consultant and my actual job title in English in their HR system/email signature was “Superior Talent” - I guess to remind the trogs in their employ that they had failed and required external resources to get things done.

echoing what some of the others said, it’s a brainwashing tactic. It makes pmcs and “skilled” workers divorce themselves in their minds from the broader working class which instills an antagonistic mindset towards the demands of said class. I’m talent bitch not one of those low life plebs cleaning the gutters
