Two girls, aged 10 and 12. Fluent in Spanish, middle schoolish in German and Mandarin.
I run my - very non-technical - sister’s plex server remotely so I can tinker with subtitles and such if needs be as it seems many foreign series only have crowd-sourced subs. So you don’t have to make sure there are subs, I’ll find them somehow.
Some very popular children’s television from Germany is the Sendung mit der Maus (the show with the mouse): https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=sendung+mit+der+maus+englisch
They’ve always shown a mix of cute animations and informative stuff that includes live action footage about all kinds of educational topics. For example, this show is were i saw Krtek , the little mole from Czechoslovakian children’s tv, for the first time. Right now, the Maus is under fire from chuds for telling kids about trans people existing.
wow german is such a beautiful language when it is spoken by kind people.
I know that and also wow, it really is beautiful.
Omg I remember the mole show from my childhood and I forgot what it was called. I also remember some of the episodes were really bizarre.
i recently rediscovered it thanks to people on here posting about it and it’s actually really beautiful. very cool mid-century art style, lots of wholesome messages about cooperation and environmentalism and the mole is just as cute as ever.
Pat and mat, i liked watching it when i was a kid, it was made in czechoslovakia and also it doesnt have any dialogue so your nieces shouldnt have trouble understanding it
Journey to Melonia is a nice adaptation of the Tempest. Most of Per Åhlin’s stuff is good though, and it has a anti-capitalist slant in a 70s hippy way.
Most of his stuff should be available dubbed in German I think, but there are subs if nothing else.
- She-Ra and the princesses of power
Pelle Svanslös is pretty good. Pretty sure it has a German version
