As much as i love shitting on tesla cars, we already did this fake story back in like 2012 with like a Prius or something. I remember CNN doing the whole live story watching the guy pretend to drive 80mph on the highway, talking with the cops about not being able to stop. Turned out to be a complete hoax. They had experts on CNN saying stupid shit like “No no, its good that hes not employing the hand brake”. I remember losing an immense amount of respect for CNN at the time because i instantly knew it to be a hoax.

Not sure if Tesla can be too directly compared to a real car company, but,

Remember the panic over “sudden acceleration” on Toyota cars that was later just found to be people missing the brake and hitting the gas? That caused a ton of people to double down slamming the “brakes” even harder because they had heard of the supposed problem, which killed a lot of people.

Yeah that might’ve been the toyota car thing, but someone obviously faked it and got on CNN.
