The unexpected pregnancy trope is fairly common. In modern shows lip service is almost always given to abortion being an option but I can’t think of a single show where one of the protagonist actually decides to have one. No matter how “woke” the show is abortion just seems to be something that no good character is allowed to do. Seems kinda fucked up to me.

On the sad horse show Dianne does.

Isn’t everyone in that show presented as kinda fucked up?

Dianne is generally portrayed as struggling to be virtuous, as juxtaposed with Bojack (and his circle of celebrity friends) whose morals have been completely dissolved by time in Hollywood.

The Abortion Episode juxtaposes Dianne’s materialist struggle with pursuing an abortion against the media sensationalization of abortion as a culture war issue.

Incidentally, I will fight Matt Christmasman to the Death over Sad Horse Show being good, aktuly.

Yes, though she’s one of the more sympathetic characters and for all the self-destructive things she does that isn’t portrayed as one of them: it’s just a normal, if stressful, thing and she’s relieved when it’s done, after which it isn’t really brought up again.

That’s cool, maybe it is slightly more main stream then I thought.

No argument there. But it’s still not a character “who does the right thing” getting one, is a some one who’s fundamentally damaged.

She’s a fan favorite character, but she has a reputation at the school for being the “class slut.”

The show usually portrays her empathetically, but also grossly sexualizes her.

Multiple iterations of Degrassi have. Next Class had the best episode of it, but The Next Generation’s was not the greatest framing. That’s the one that’s hard to find iirc (there’s one much older one too)

It’s a plot point in season 2 of Sex Ed on Netflix. Kind of different from you point since it takes place in an idyllic fictionalized UK, and the secondary protagonist/deuteragonist, not the main character has one. Been a while since I’ve seen it so I may be misremembering too.

A little more than that, it’s some weird fictionalized mix of the UK and the US.

Yeah, though it’s iffy because her character is supposed to be “trailer trash” to an extent. But still the show doesn’t exactly present it as a bad thing. The main character takes her there and helps her through it without question.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend had an abortion episode back in 2016. The protagonist’s best friend - a mother of three whose husband is cheating on her - ends up getting an abortion.
