I really enjoyed it.
Fun fact it’s not actually CGI at all, that’s why it took like 6 years to make 9 episodes
nah CGI wouldn’t be the perfect word but its definitionally computer-gen when you have 3d assets for as much as they do, its not the odd CG stand-in for a complicated-to-draw object you’d see in 90s-2000s animation,
all the characters and moving parts of scenes are 3d. no denying huge amounts, possibly the most ever in a style like this is 2d art, and its extraordinarily well done—but it ain’t not CG
yeah it is pretty good! What surprised me was how almost all the characters were compelling, except for Heimmerdinger or however it’s spelled, him just constantly saying :blob-stop: without justifying himself and going :surprised-pika: when seeing poverty was really annoying.
His voice is less annoying than in the game, if you can believe it.
And yeah, the show didn’t go into it, but in the backstory mages came extremely close to destroying the world, and he was there to see it. In the even older lore that’s not canon anymore, magic was a metaphor for nuclear weapons- the Rune Wars were basically nuclear war and Runeterra was extremely lucky to have survived.
EDIT: The old lore was that, because the world couldn’t survive another Rune War, all existing states got together and agreed to have everything decided by making champions from each faction fight on behalf of their faction, which is what the game is. They had a pro match decide the direction the lore would go in at one point, it was actually kinda cool. New lore is that the matches are just entirely non-canon.
I found it extremely compelling how weighty the combat and even non-combat scenes felt. Every object actually had an implied mass, deformed when struck together, bounced believably… It was the most ‘kinetic’ animation-type show I’ve seen in a long while.
Later they even play with disconnecting the mass from weight through hextec which makes that stuff look so much more powerful.
I really liked it, which was shocking.
Only part I didn’t like was the sex scene implying Jayce would ever go down. We all know he wouldn’t.
EDIT: Oh also, didn’t like how Jinx’s mental health was portrayed.
But anyway, here’s hoping that Season 2 has Camille and Orianna.
Nah, it’s more that fuckboys like Jayce don’t eat pussy. I think you kind of have to go into the show knowing how he’s portrayed in the game to get it lol.
probable spoilers for Season 2 based on the game's backstory
So in the game, Jayce was released before Viktor, and his lore talked about how he was a very clear-cut hero, always fighting against his eternal enemy, the dastardly Viktor. Then Viktor was released with actual compelling backstory and reasons for what he was doing (the show amped this up and made Viktor even more sympathetic), and Riot basically outright said “yeah, Jayce’s lore is his in-universe PR. He kinda sucks”
