I’m always reminded of this quote by Sartre:
Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past.
This is the reason my go to thing is a quick and succinct “shut the fuck up” when I encounter racists and nazis online. You don’t have to think of something witty. You open with that Salvo and then you buy time to come up with more detailed replies. It’s kinda why post hog was so effective. You could slam one out in faster than it took to click “reply”
Like Rebro’s best contribution was his “post wrist” shit and it really got some chuds malding hard.
What was post wrist? I remember chuds used to get so hilariously mad at ‘post hog’ it short circuited them
This shit drives me insane. Every time I see some smug lib post along the lines of “republicans say they believe X, but then they do Y, curious…” I’m like: wow you cracked the case, how will they ever recover from this exposure of their hypocrisy. If you’re so smart and they’re so stupid then why are you constantly getting owned?
We’ve been doing this for at least 30 years, too. But people act like it’s some novel thing.
That shit absolutely triggers me but as long as they aren’t separating “bad” from “good” Republicans (making it worse), I wonder if that really does speak to a heavily brainwormed audience of American libs who think it’s all a big disagreement. Like some people have it bad
I don’t know but it can be hard not to overestimate liberals
