Wait, who said there’s no sex? And funny how PragerU only cares about same sex attraction when they’re using it to attack another minority.

Depends how transhumanist you want to get. Post-gender society is a big topic of scifi debate and the differentiation between gender and sex is muddy in the first place but intentionally ignored for the sake of keeping the message clear while pressing for existing rights. Where we are with our current discourse on the topic will probably be pretty rubbished by whatever comes after the zoomers if we can continue to see actual progress occur.

Discussions on the topic are actually really interesting, in good faith, among informed people treating it in good faith. Those are really rare outside of hard scifi circles and the more grownup trans spaces though.

A fun question is really what happens to sex and sexuality in an environment where we have advanced to the capability to change bodies at any time we want, or not even be human, be a blob if you like, a cube, a talking lampshade. The topic exists in both a digital singularity where humans leave behind bodies completely and upload ourselves to digital space as well as in a physical future where biotechnology advances to such a state that creating any biology we want is possible. Does any of it matter? Is gender and sexuality even a thing if your sexual partner is a talking lampshade? It’s hard to say what happens to our perception of this topic on a long enough timeline where this all advances well beyond anything we have a frame of reference for. It is of course a controversial topic among lgbt people because it’s potentially politically damaging to the existing victories that have been won for any of that topic to enter discourse. People would use it in very bad-faith rather than exploring what’s interesting about it.

This is only mildly related, but I was daydreaming yesterday of having a dick, large boobs I could remove when I wanted, and a beard that I could choose to have or not have on any given day depending on my mood.

I just want to be a Mr Potato Head person with removable body parts! Is that so much to ask?!?

That’s the first thing I thought reading the post, this could be a legitimate question in some Star Trek futuristic society. It’s actually a 200IQ take from Rowling, she just didn’t mean for it to be.

Yeah. It’s a legitimately dangerous topic because it holds gender and sexuality to the fire given that all our political arguments to win battles are things like “you’re born this way” and that they’re “inherent characteristics”. We avoid talking about things like how sexuality can change (mine has changed twice) and we absolutely avoid the topic of the concept of a non-gendered person which would NOT be the same as a non-binary person. What even is a gender? Can you just not have any gender at all? Why is any amount of gender required? How much gender do you have? Lmao. I’m being a little silly, but, there’s legitimate questions that get into the galaxy-brain zone. Does anyone at all reallllly have a gender when we transcend bodies and literally pick and choose our outward appearance in ways that aren’t even physical? Is a cloud of gas gendered? Does it have a sexuality? I think not.

We enter a space of post-genderism with that kind of technology that brings about deeply inherent humanity questions about everything we currently hold as truths. Our cultural battles in such a space are going to be wild.
