This is the place for discussion about firearms and related topics.

No fedposting. Be careful not to dox yourself. Talking about and owning guns obviously isn’t illegal, but that doesn’t mean some chud won’t try to use information against you.

I highly recommend using a throwaway when asking for or giving advice that may include identifying information. Using Tor doesn’t hurt.

I was cleaning my gun and the recoil spring retainer got flung out and I’m pretty sure it’s under the stove but thestove is connected to the wall and I’m gonna need a magnet on a stick to get it back

That happened to me the first day I owned my rifle. Bought two spares of every tiny part.

This is a very tough question and one that I don’t think has a good or right answer. I completely understand the hesitation to get training from a fash/fash adjacent group. Maybe figure out what it is exactly that you want from these training classes and find a way to set it up for yourself? I imagine it’s just a series of drills that they will have you run. If you can run the drills yourself somewhere with friends, that’s what I would do.

Better to have an AR-15 rifle build in 223, maybe with a red dot + flip down magnifier (versatile midrange for community defense, hunting, etc)

or an AR-15 pistol AND something like an AR-10/bolty/battle rifle in a bigger caliber?

IMO better to start with an AR-15 that’s like 14.5" (pistol or SBR+stamp) or 16" (rifle). Even barrels as short as 12.5" can be effective at 200+ yards under the right conditions, and an 18"+ barrel can be pretty unwieldy getting out of cars and going around corners and such.

Then later if you feel like it or have a use case for it (hunting, etc) you can get a bolt action, or shell out for a battle rifle type gun. But outside of specific use cases I think most people would be content with a gun that’s easy to maneuver with but still effective at range.

Hopefully other people can chime in if they have different opinions.

Forgot I had a gun and realized I haven’t oiled it in like a year. Will probably do it today. I have CLP but I was wondering if synthetic car oil will work like or if that’s just boomer lore

I’ve never heard this. I feel like it might work as like a preservative oil but probably won’t be great for cleaning?

I’ve heard of people using car oil to good results but no personal experience. Probably don’t use it on a carry gun unless you’re sure it will work.
