They’re petty bourgeois ghouls. Fuck 'em. Watch their “progressive” views turn 180 degrees as soon as they make the causal connection between the existence of homeless people and property value. You don’t need to apologize a goddamn thing, and fuck anyone who tries to pull some “uh acktually, their proles because they get paid a wage as well” flattening bullshit in order to shame you feeling this way. Yes, they’re ghouls for treating poor people in the abstract like shit, yes, they’re ghouls for treating particular poor people (ie you) like shit, and yes, they’re ghouls for trying to fish for clout with their asinine “wow, it turns out the poors don’t have it so good that’s so sad :(.”

As you can probably guess, they don’t actually care about poor people. At best, they see poor people as zoo animals or freaks in a freak show, something to point at, take pictures of, and used as fodder for small casual talk. You, as a poor, are expected to thank them for finally acknowledging you but otherwise keep quiet and know your place as scenery.

“Wow, Brenda, did you know poor people have monthly payments for furniture because they’re too poor to pay everything at once?” “Omg, Mary, that is so sad!”

Well you went to that university too so those really are your people more than they are different from you. Cure yourself of self-loathing (though who knows how) and this resentment will also fade

I think it’s okay to resent those people in particular. They haven’t actually transitioned into real class consciousness or even, really, just being considerate towards you.

I spent the first three decades of my life being like these people so I feel like I get it. If proletarian comrades questioned my commitment to communism I would understand. All of my friends and family are libs and it’s gotten to the point where I’m afraid to even talk with them since they live in a world where even raising an eyebrow at the status quo means you are helping Trump and that you are therefore a fascist.

For your friends, it’s highly likely that they’re still libs. I was against the Iraq War from the beginning but didn’t really get into Marxism until much later. AFAIK I’m the only person in my friend/family group who has gone this far. If someone from my past came to me and claimed that I had libbed out before, I tell myself I would apologize. If revolution breaks out in the USA, I tell myself I will follow proletarian communist leaders. If revolution succeeds and I find myself facing a revolutionary court for my past misdeeds, I tell myself I’ll submit to their justice.

Also, just want to note that there is nothing wrong with being furious with lib anti-maskers (libs who dgaf about the nastier aspects of capitalism). My spouse is a nurse; failing to mask puts her life in danger. If anything, we should probably be much angrier than we already are at these people. Liberals in particular are cowards and will mask if they are relentlessly confronted about it.
