Some of the biggest brainworms are steak-related. It’s like some holy grail of carnivory. People will eat all kinds of food with sauces, but then get mad at someone who eats steak with a sauce. People will build their entire personalities around a preference for rare steak, especially men who want to bolster their masculinity by eating blood.

Newsflash: When you get steak added to something, it’s always small brown strips. No one gets a burrito or a philly cheesesteak with rare steak. Vegan steak imitations aim to replicate not the pinkest part, but the outside layer, but all the way through and juicier. We originally began to cook meat over a fire, and marinate it and add spices to it and add vegetables to it, because that made it better. If you do not do these things, you are eating a relatively bland hunk of protein.

“You’ve just got to appreciate the flavor of the meat itself” - no, binch, that mass of stringy pulp barely has any flavor on its own.

I refuse to believe the people eating raw meat and eggs actually enjoy the taste of it, that they’re not just lying to themselves to be performative.

oh I didn’t know I agreed with that take until I read it just now. Give me oregano, parsley, or coriander anytime over cloves or aniseed!

Very spicy food (from capsicin) is dumb, pain is not a flavour, and even though I am forced to eat a lot of it all I taste is pain and never build the tolerance people say you get.

On the other hand I’ll gladly eat wasabi by the bowl.

Not sure how hot of a take this is, but I prefer some foods when they’re cold, mostly rice and chicken dishes. In the winter I pull that shit out of the oven and put it out on my balcony to make it cold
