Have you had fun playing backups of games you legally own on physical media
lately? Dumped
any BIOS files
from the old consoles
you own?
I’m sure you have- after all, we’re all about doing things legally and being above board here, aren’t we?

In all honesty, I get why the official forums, subreddits, discords and what have you for different emulator projects have the anti-piracy stances they do- they don’t want years of work being cease and desisted by Sony or Nintendo because of people linking to roms. I still think the pretense is funny
I have been playing a bit of LEGALLY OBTAINED twilight princess for the first time
it’s pretty good, no idea how i missed playing it earlier on my ORIGINAL HARDWARE
Based on Grimbeard’s recent review I decided to emulate The Darkness. It was a hassle to get a PS3 and figure out how to dump games from it but boy oh boy is it worth it to do everything by the book

Interestingly for RPCS3 you get the BIOS from Sony’s own website, which is thoughtful of them and cuts out the middleman
There’s a HD texture pack for Twilight Princess (Gamecube version) which looks AMAZING. You should really try it out if you’re not that far into the game. Play that shit in 4K. Same goes for Windwaker. Shit’s even better than the Nintendo remaster!
Anybody know good places to get isos for disk-based console emulators?
Edit:
Absolutely under no circumstances should you torrent without a VPN, unless you live in a very cool country. Here are some magnet links (if you don’t know what this means, don’t ask me. I barely know, myself!).

I’m under the heel of USA Comcast and they’ve never given a fuck. Is everyone else just pirating super new stuff and that’s what’s causing the problems?
Seriously. You can get fullsets for most consoles or just download the games you want.
is dumping bios even legal? you could just say that violates dmca anti-circumventation anyways
I think they’re mainly trying to avoid people sharing links to bios files and roms on channels related to the emulators to avoid console manufacturers throwing their entire legal weight at them. What you do with your own hardware inside your own home is none of the devs’ business.
I think dumping ROM (BIOS is just ROM stored on the motherboard) is in the same category as software end user license agreements. Big IP will tell you it is illegal to reverse engineer your own property and threaten to litigate, but they are afraid of what might happen if they actually take it to court. On the other hand, they will absolutely sue if you are distributing their IP (the dumped ROM).
My favorite one is a speedrunner who gives out an “Amazon store link” to a copy of their speed game, which in actuality is just a google drive with a free download of it. They just have to be euphemistic or else Twitch could come down on them.
I love receive and then sharing all my Linux ISOs!! :penguin-dance:
