I remember loving this movie as a kid used to watch it every 2-3 years. IT has its flaws but it is a wildly inventive sci-fi action adventure similar to fifth element. The good parts are great and the bad parts are so bad its good.

Its a unity ticket film you can watch with your irony-poisoned terminally online friends AND your friends who still like Marvel movies.

At the same time, I am suspicious of any vin diesel movie…

EDIT: Not trying to stir shit, just genuinely wanted to know if people had weird vibes from this movie or what so I don’t show it to a friend and have them go wtf

Vin Diesel is egotistical, but in an endearing way. The kind of egotistical where he doesn’t hesitate to produce a cheesy sci-fi action movie starring himself as his badass original character (do not steal). The man has an unshakeable conviction in his own coolness that makes me actually kind of envy him.

Contrast with someone like Elon, whose ego mostly manifests in abusing his employees, getting his useless ventures funded by billions of dollars in taxpayer money, and calling rescue divers pedophiles.

Vin Diesel taught Judy Dench to play D&D on the set of Chronicles.

The first one (Pitch Black) was pretty great, features some gender stuff IIRC. Haven’t seen it in a while so I can’t remember if it held up

I remember it had a pretty positive portrayal of Muslims, very different from a lot of movies.

Pretty sure it’s one of the rare sci fi films whose fictional religion borrows heavily from Islamic folklore and mysticism

I remember that being one of my favorite movies as a kid. Will revisit eventually.

I forget what her name is, but the woman who played Jack in Pitch Black was totally ready to reprise the role in chronicles. She got jacked, too martial arts classes, but apparently the studio shut her down over Vin’s objections.

I only played the game which was about escaping from a prison colony. It seemed to be ok, and I vaguely recall starting like an uprising break out or something along the way. I dunno, it’s been a while.

Nothing in particular. I guess I just assume any early 2000s action here is a pest but not baed on anything!
