I…actually miss sprites; this newfangled ‘polygons’ nonsense just can’t catch on. Sprites are literal art, requiring skilled artistry, and able to display whatever picture you want. This so called ‘3D’ thing can’t possibly to hope to catch on.
Basically all of the games I play are from free online emulators and I approve of this post.
I have found more and more games visually fatiguing since about the PS4 era. Both hyper-detail and large numbers of effects of effects are just unpleasant and over whelming. People still make games I find visually pleasant of course, but I do miss when technical limitations made that the norm instead of the outlier.
I also think there is something to be said for leaving room for your mind to fill in the blanks. Morrowind gave me a sense of wonder and mystery with it’s environments that I think is owed just as much to it’s low fidelity as it is design choices.
I run my games on my pc and then stream them to my laptop in the other room so all my games look like :dprk-soldier:
It’s a very efficient setup with zero flaws.
