I don’t know if this is what’s being referred to, but McGill is home to a kind of espionage arms race between China and US intelligence. McGill collaborates with Chinese scientists, and has done research for the People’s Liberation Army. In turn, the FBI and CIA have put spies at McGill to monitor Chinese research.
