It’s just grown men and women doing power level forum posts and playing war nerd D&D then pissing their pants about how they wouldn’t win a slam dunk victory over our biggest economic rival, seeing as we hollowed out our entire industrial base in the pursuit of ever-greater profit margins

This is either hilariously true or it’s just made up justifications to increase defense spending even more. Either way I don’t think anyone at Politco has access to actual information about US readiness for a war with China. That kind of info would be very classified and likely in a chandeliered bathroom in Mar a Lago.

I think this is closer to the truth than it isn’t. Maybe some of the leadership figures think they’re exaggerating, but I really don’t see how the last half-century of de-industrialization could leave the US military in any other state…

My vote is for this… The industrial capacity of China is roughly comparable to the US + Japan + Germany. While relatively poor in domestic natural resources to support this capacity, it would seem they are currently making arrangements to address that.

The whole article hinged on the idea of China starting a war and America will need a deterrent – in Taiwan. China will somehow start a war with America inside it’s own borders.

Our relentless agression towards china may careen us into a war with them, what should we do?

Gallagher said the Pentagon should offer prime missile contractors such as Lockheed Martin a slew of new multi-year contracts.

The actual point of the article.

Yes this is part of a wider push to manufacture consent for a massive increase in military spending.
