If the recent history of enshittification on the internet is any guide, it’s more likely that it will lead to a situation where it’s intentionally vague what’s a subreddit-as-business and what’s a regular sub. And I’m sure we’d see algorithm games where the subs that pony up extra cash appear higher in searches and are more likely to be in the Recommended For You subreddits.
I really don’t care about the Reddit ‘strike’ or any more of the news of it, but if it means it is the path of least resistance to the death of Reddit it has my full support
Liberal democracy, where people can vote but public information is controlled by an unelected and highly invested party (the rich) doesn’t work. Democracy without that level of systemic interference is much more viable.
So many subs came back immediately after this lol
