I’m only familiar with the SWP (USA) personally, which I don’t think is a sex cult, but they did try pretty hard to convince a friend of mine who they’d been chatting for like a month up to go to a conference in another state and when she said she had a major surgery right before it they continued to try and coerce her into going, so they are some kind of cult.

I attended a few online meetings of my local trot org and they seemed like weird nerds but mostly harmless, until someone delivered a lecture on why Cuba is imperialist and I stopped paying attention to their emails.

Yeah, that’s a real failure mode with student-centric Trot orgs, even otherwise solid ones. It’s generally counterproductive but they’re reliant on student churn rather than retaining people when they enter the workplace (usually misquoting Lenin about how a factory worker from 1900 working 14 hour days can’t be a professional revolutionary.) Be particularly careful of any org that says "We’re not a party, we’re a (Propaganda org/Cadre training org/UFO-Dolphin friendship society and Nuclear research institute)

rule of thumb, don’t mix politics and relationships in the same manner you don’t mix work and politics. Once in a while it may work out, but that’s a pretty risky dice roll on possibly making your private and professional life messy.

Yeah I agree. Keep the bloc in the streets, not in the sheets.

I mean, mixing work and politics is kind of the entire point of Socialism and you should do it if you can. I get why people don’t want to get fired day 1 for putting up union posters in the lunch room, though.
