I visited Costa Rica earlier this year. While the people were nice and enjoyed my visit, the place was quite clearly an impoverished banana republic being driven in the ground by a liberal government whose whole economic strategy is to suck up and attract as much cash from western tourists as possible. Every home there had it’s windows and doors barred up like prison cells because of theft.
