It’s courteous to address someone how they would like to be addressed: man, woman, he, her, they, just their name, he’ll even Mr. or Miss or Mrs are signs of respecting how someone would like to be addressed. With transgender peoples now you have the tiniest amount of being considerate with something deemed “weird” mixed with all sorts of online-ness so people have a shit fit when a celebrity realizes they’re trans and would like to be addressed as such. You can chalk it up to transphobia (which it is), but it’s a deeper rot into how they cannot see themselves as part of a society filled with other people like them capable of emotions and vulnerabilities. In a way they’re sociopaths and I honestly don’t know how we handle this widespread cultural sociopathy when the advice of “just be nice to people” is met with “why should I.”

I think part of it is envy. Ellen Page was absolutely beautiful as a woman and seems like one of the most well-adjusted people to come out of Hollywood. He’s been the “it girl” so many times in his life, and to see him “throw that away” to “become a man” is too much for people whose dreams never went beyond the traditional ideas of success. I’m happy for him, though - it just turns out I’m a little gayer than I thought, I guess.

On the other hand, you’ll probably hear a huge collective sigh of relief from shitty online straight guys who were upset over Ellen’s sexuality despite the fact that they would still never have had a shot if she were straight. Now that he’s Elliot, they can all go back to pretending that they wouldn’t fuck him anyway so it’s all good.

I’ve seen them asked this many times and their answer is always some “because I care about the truth/facts!” bullshit.

I genuinely think on some level they are upset that trans people are getting “attention”.

This isn’t all of them of course, and I notice it more with women than men, but they seem to be almost jealous in some way. Doubly so for TERFs. They think they’re getting special attention.

A lot of them are just plain reactionary though and just not willing to learn anything new. Like those dumbass people who are like “uhhh, in school we learned that there were two genders lol” like you didn’t also spend all of high school physics pretending that friction doesn’t exist.
