I’m starting to think Americans never actually gave a fuck about people dying in 9/11, and they only got worked up over it because it was an attack on “American greatness” or something. They were angry at the symbolism, not the death.
I used to think us Americans were selfish assholes because our military would slaughter millions overseas and we couldn’t care less. But now I’m seeing how little fellow Americans care about a 9/11 every day among fellow Americans. So we’re still monstrous, selfish assholes… but at least we’re a bit more consistent about it.
Correct! 9/11 was a big deal because we “let” a bunch of “savages” come to our house (New York City, a place 99% of Americans despise) and attack us. The human toll means nothing.
I don’t think a lot of Leftists quite understand how little value human life has to the average person, objectively, not based on what they say to sound “acceptable”
People were mad because 9/11 is the sort of thing that happens in places that you can’t pronounce and have never heard of, not the Capital of the Universe.
Covid is similar. Plagues happen in weird dirty countries, not here. Why should good, decent Americans not be allowed to go shopping and grab a bite at that fun sit down place next to the mall, with the good sandwiches? Mass death can’t happen here, people just need to shape up (/s)!

At least with these deaths one can make some plausible argument in the form of “well there’s a balance to be struck between safety and convenience, or safety and the desire to use intoxicants.” Any sort of similar argument with covid falls flat when you look at how much better other countries have contained it.

Civil engineer here: automobile deaths are an avoidable consequence of urbanism. We do have the power to design cities and roads and cars so people do not die as a consequence of transportation, last year in Stockholm not a single driver killed anyone. Zero people died due to automobile crashes in a city of 1.6 million. The reason that tragic violence exists, like the reason covid deaths occur is because of the systemic rejection of materialism in the engineering profession.

The college prices staying the same is interesting. That means there’s no competition bringing down the prices, no free market bullshit to blame it on. It’s set that way as a necessity to perpetuate classism.
It just confirms that the goal of it is to get you into the debt cycle. Has nothing to do with the service itself. The high price is needed to keep people under the boot heel and using their knowledge for anything remotely anti-capitalist.
