So the course wasn’t profitable before, very cool. Not to buy it back from them or anything, because then god forbid the city turns it into a park. No no they’ll be looking for some sort of subsidy to keep the course running or some shit.

They’re not going to get it because if the city wouldn’t subsidize the previous owners no way are they going to subsidize the new, poorer ones. The course will degrade from neglect as they fail to pay for basic upkeep, and eventually become a massive dilapidated lot and the only thing they will have accomplished is preventing the creation of a public park.

Compromise: golf courses have to fit with the natural landscape, and are only allowed a very small amount of water for landscaping/maintaining greens. Meaning a golf course in the sonora desert will be mostly sand.
